Some Call Me Beth

I realized today that it’s been forever since I have uploaded any of my paintings to the blog. I just finished this one today. It isn’t exactly the most unique concept (perhaps I should title it “Cliché”? lol) but I still had a lot of fun painting it.

I have been doing a lot of ballpoint pen and watercolor paintings lately. I have quite a few different pens, but keep going back to the standard black Papermate pens that you can get in a 10 pack for just a couple of dollars. I like how you can shade with them almost like a pencil. The only thing that worries me a bit about them is that I have read that the ink is not lightfast, which means it will fade over time. Right now that’s not a big deal since I’m just practicing and am not doing any pieces that I plan to sell. If I ever do start trying to sell my work, however, I think I will have to look for an alternative that won’t fade.

At any rate, this is where I’m at right now. I feel like I am making progress from when I first started out. I still struggle with keeping my colors from looking blotchy and with controlling the paint, but I definitely am learning more with each painting that I do.
