About Me

Greetings! Welcome to my online home 🙂 I am super excited to have this space where I can share my art, ideas and inspiration. Looking back, I have been interested in art for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid, I was always coloring, drawing, cutting paper or trying my hand at any number of different creative pursuits.

My foray into art as a career began a couple of decades ago when I discovered and fell in love with mosaics. There was just something about taking tiny pieces of glass and assembling them into a cohesive whole that really appealed to me.

A while ago, we moved into a new house that didn’t have the right kind of wiring to run my kiln, and didn’t have a separate space where I could work on my mosaics without making a mess. I decided to take a break from working with glass until I could get a dedicated studio set up. Trust me when I say that there is nothing fun about having tiny glass shards stuck in your carpet. Mosaics are definitely best suited to areas where no one walks around barefoot! 🙂

After moving, I really missed having a creative outlet. That’s partly why I decided to start this blog. I wanted a place where I could immerse myself in art and creativity without getting glass shards stuck in the bottom of my feet.

I also discovered pattern design a few years ago and instantly fell in love. I’ve managed to turn surface design into a full-time income, which is amazing. I am so grateful that I can work from home doing something I love. Most of my illustrations are done with ink and colored pencil, although I have been trying to incorporate more digital work into my designs, as well.

randomfacts
  • I am REALLY bad at telling jokes.
  • Over the years I’ve been a paper carrier, restaurant hostess, housekeeper, night auditor, casino attendant, cashier, bartender, waitress, receptionist, federal employee, web designer, mosaic artist, and freelance writer.
  • I am beyond lucky to live with the love of my life in Washington state.
  • I am a huge sci-fi nerd. Some of my favorite shows are Star Trek (of course), Battlestar Galactica, Red Dwarf, the old Outer Limits, Quantum Leap, Futurama, Lost, The X-Files, Farscape, and Stargate. Canadian comedy shows like Kids in the Hall are also pretty high up on my list, as are weird cartoons like Aqua Teen Hunger Force and The Venture Brothers.
  • I went to school for geology and was planning on becoming a paleontologist. Rockhounding with my dad was one of my favorite activities growing up. When I got older, I volunteered at the Museum of the Rockies gluing together dinosaur bones. Even though my career plans eventually fell through, I still love rocks and fossils as much as I did when I was a kid. I think that’s part of what I loved so much about making mosaics – being able to include beautiful rocks and stones in my designs.
  • Music is an incredibly huge part of my life – it’s hard to imagine going a day without it. Some of my favorite bands include Kingdom Come, Blue Murder, Mr. Big, Cats in Boots, Megadeth, Suicidal Tendencies, Coheed and Cambria, Faith No More, Queensryche, Mastodon, the Deftones, L.A. Guns, Engine, Ugly Kid Joe, Sevendust, Oingo Boingo, and Tool.
  • I am well on my way to becoming a crazy cat lady. We have four little kitties – Earl, Guido, Frannie & Margot. They are beyond spoiled. Not only do they eat better food than we do, but they have somehow managed to permanently take over the best spot on the couch 🙂 We also take care of several feral cats – Merle, Pete, Vincent & Paul.
  • Some of my favorite artists are Caitlin Hackett, Adam Oehlers, Nikolay Tolmachev, Antonio Mancini, Tamara De Lempicka, and Hieronymus Bosch.

I hope you’ll take some time to say hello and to check out my site. The best way to stay up to date on my latest posts and videos is to follow me on Instagram. I always update there when I post anything new. Thanks for stopping by!
